Florida became an offical state in 1845. The first settlers to come to were Europeans with one spanish solider named, Juan Pronce de Leon, they both came across a penisula unclaimed on April 2, 1513. After Juan and the settlers came through more Spanish and French settlers were making the journey to an unclaimed penisula. Just after 200 years of Spanish controling it, Great Britain took over control in 1763. Almost 100 years later the Idian Removal act was passed, so all idians had to move somewhere else. Shortly after that they had a war with the Seminals That lasted from 1855-1858 that resulted in a removal of the remaining Seminals.

    White settlers Started to set up Plantations like; Cotton and farm. This need many worksers so they used their 44% of African Americans to pick the cotton or crops and plant more. Florida used their slaves for everything, less then 100 African Americans lived free in the south near Florida.

    The growing demand for cotton is causing  Florida to buy in for more slaves. This demand is the reason why Florida switch over, breaking off fromt the Union and joining the Confederate. Florida joined ten days before the Civil War started.
